The Belgian Grand Prix

The Belgian Grand Prix
The 2022 Belgian Grand Prix will take place over 44 laps of the 7.004-kilometre Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps on Sunday, August 28th and it’s sure to be an exciting race.

As the summer break comes to an end, Formula 1 fans can rejoice as the season resumes. The first stage back will be at Spa in Belgium, which is known to be one of the most exciting and complicated tracks of the entire season. It will be interesting to see how the teams and drivers fare when racing resumes.

During the summer break of formula 1, we had several emotions, such as the surprise signing of Fernando Alonso by Aston Martin. Of course, the drama in the paddock isn’t over, but it’s time to hit the track and enjoy the second half of the season.

Mercedes Doesn’t Want to Leave Without a Victory

Mercedes has yet to win a single race this season. It seems that the new regulations affected the team that can not find a good rhythm and are far behind in the Constructors’ Championship.

However, the German brand is not giving up and is optimistic about the progress of the car; in addition, its drivers have two consecutive podiums, corresponding to Paul Ricard, and then at the Hungaroring,

The brand intends to use some new developments in Belgium to regain some ground and hopefully have its first win of the year.

“Yes, we have more to come,” confirmed Andrew Shovlin, director of engineering.

“The aim is to increase our level of performance at Spa further and thus reduce the gap to the leaders. We are not very far now…

“In fact, we will continue to develop the car for quite some time,” Shovlin continued.

“The last few races have gone well, and the next step is to start winning races again. We want to do that in the near future, and we are working towards it!

“In Hungary, the result was really satisfying because we didn’t have to rely on our opponents’ bad luck or reliability problems to achieve this performance. The pace was perfect, either in qualifying or in the race.

“We’ve had a lot of catching up to do since winter testing, we’ve worked really hard to bring in new parts every weekend, and it’s very satisfying to see that we can battle it out again today,” Andrew concluded.

Ferrari and an update in the engine

Ferrari will arrive at Spa with the pressure to show that it can still compete for the World Championship, both for drivers and constructors.

In Maranello, they are working hard to update the engine and solve reliability problems. Updates to its power unit have been, so far, the Achilles heel of the Italian team, the lack of reliability has ruined the chances of a good part of the Scuderia’s races in the first half of the season.

Its best driver Charles Leclerc has achieved seven poles. However, he is second in the classification table with a difference of 80 points from Max Verstappen, who has only achieved three poles. In other words, the Ferrari car is faster than any other and manages to dominate the classification. However, it fails in the races.

Mattia Binotto has explained to motorsport.com that they expect new developments in hybrid systems.

“We are working on it, but it will not mean a turning point,” said the Italian.

“We have to remember that we have a limited time to test parts, which has also influenced our work.

When there were no restrictions, we could develop more and spend more time on the test benches.

Both of these things were good for both performance and reliability.

“But now, with a time limit, we are forced to make decisions,” Binotto said.

For his part, Ferrari’s sports director, Laurent Mekies, praised the evolution in the driving style of Carlos Sainz “He had three quite good weeks in Silverstone, Austria, and France.

“We are very, very happy about that.

“Of course, that didn’t reflect much on the final results after his win at Silverstone because we had other issues to deal with, but it’s clear that he’s made a lot of progress since the start of the season,” he specifies.
