Today it is not uncommon for fighters to change their discipline if the purse at stake is correct. We have seen several fighters leave the octagon to stand in the ring and vice versa, and this would be the case.
Kamaru Usman has stated in the past that he would love to face Canelo, proof of which is what he said in an interview with ESPN’s Marc Raimondi.
“I think that’s something that [would be] the biggest ever in history,” Usman told and added, “That’s what I’m looking to do.
That’s something that scares me. That’s something that gets me up in the morning.
Since then, a kind of cold war has been generated between both athletes.
Although recently, Canelo Alvarez praised Kamaru during an interview with FightHype.com, calling him a brilliant fighter.
When asked about a possible confrontation against Usman, the Mexican boxer stated that he does not feel that this is the time for that.
“Not now; I want to have big fights and make boxing history. And then maybe when I’m done boxing, maybe I can do those kinds of fights,” Canelo said.

For Kamaru Usman, it seems that the motivation to face Canelo responds more to a matter of money and not to prove himself as an athlete.
Usman interestingly stated on the “I Am Athlete” podcast: “I beat Jake Paul. Nobody cares. You’re supposed to beat him.
I still have that money in a bank account now. If I beat Canelo, the greatest athlete in the world, I will win 100 million dollars in the bank. If I am going to bet, I will do it well.
Dana White, president of the UFC, has expressed his refusal for this fight to happen, but Usman insists that it would be a great deal for everyone.
“I think it can happen if there’s the right amount. If it makes money for the company.
If it makes dollars, it makes sense. It could definitely happen.
He’s expressed an interest in that. All you have to do is pick up a phone, do the call and get it going. But if you can’t do that, then what’s the point,” Usman said.
Conor McGregor is a more realistic possibility.
The other possible rival of the Nigerian nightmare is the controversial Conor McGregor.
The fire and potency of a clash between these two fighters have been heightened after Usman’s loss, as the Irishman has openly mocked how he lost the match.
McGregor commented on the following message.” Not even a relatively high kick. Totally bent on his own death. One bowed in victory. Another leaned toward death. Crazy sport, I love it!”
McGregor’s comments have not pleased other UFC fighters, such as Belal Muhammad, who called them an attention seeker.
“Even Conor McGregor, who knows how it feels to lose in a championship fight, he knows what it feels to lose in front of family.
These guys that kick a guy when he’s down, it just shows what kind of person they are. They’re just looking for that attention.
Conor McGregor is looking for that attention. Jake Paul is looking for that attention,” Muhammad said on The Writer vs. The Fighter podcast.
