Joel Embiid and an almost perfect night

Joel Embiid

Joel Embiid made NBA history this Sunday by becoming the first player to surpass 50 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists, and 5 blocks in a single game.

Embiid played the best game of his career in the Sixers’ 105-98 win over the Jazz at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.

The Cameroonian center was the leader of the Philadelphia 76ers in their victory, and to crown his outstanding performance, he almost achieved a quadruple double, that is, double figures in four statistical sections.

In the last quarter alone, he scored 26 points and 5 blocks; he made 18 of 23 on 2-pointers, 1 of 5 on 3-pointers, and 20 of 24 free throws.

At the end of the game, Embiid seemed to get tired of scoring, and on the last play, despite the indications of his teammate Tyrese Maxey, he stopped and did not want to go for the basket that would have led him to exceed 60 points.

“I’ll actually tell him that I had a 60-point quadruple-double on this night …” Embiid said on looking forward to telling his son Arthur about his performance.

“This is not about me. We did it as a team. Obviously, the coaches put me in those positions, and my teammates gave me the ball. Like I said, all the credit goes to my teammates,” the center said.

The Sixers don’t need Harden

Embiid’s tremendous performance has meant the Sixers don’t miss Harden.

These two consecutive victories – with the best version besides Embiid – have brought some peace to the Sixers, who had started the season a little weak.

Joel Embiid is the first player to score more than half of his team’s points in a game since Damian Lillard with the Blazers in 2019.

Doc Rivers was speechless

Doc Rivers, coach of the Sixers, had words of praise for the player: “I have never seen a more dominant performance than Embiid, combining offense and defense,” said the Sixers coach.

Joel Embiid’s 59 points is the fifth-best scoring in Sixers history after Wilt Chamberlain (68, 16, 62, and 60) and Allen Iverson (60).

He also became the fourth player, along with Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, and Bradley Beal, to score at least 100 points between back-to-back games since the NBA-ABA merger.

The MVP Race

Joel Embiid was averaging 27.7 PPG before the weekend began but has now raised that number to 32.3 PPG. As a result, the odds of his MPV have changed from 25/1 to 12/1.

Joel Embiid is quickly making a name for himself as one of the best players in the NBA. His performance so far has been MVP-worthy, and he’s building a solid case for voters to take him seriously as a candidate.

He’s been a dominating force on both ends of the court, and his play has helped the 76ers to regain some ground.

There’s no doubt that Embiid deserves MVP consideration, and he’s certainly making a case for himself as one of the top candidates.
