Is Kevin Durant the boost the Celtics need?

The Boston Celtics reached the NBA Finals last season but fell short against the Golden State Warriors. Two more wins were what the Celtics needed to get the ring. Is Kevin Durant the boost the Celtics need?

Boston’s aspirations remain high, and for this reason, the management decided to seek a change with the Brooklyn Nets to receive Kevin Durant, according to ESPN sources.

Apparently, management sees Durant as the missing link for the team to win championships and become the new dominant force in the NBA.

The Celtics have gone all out, offering to trade Jaylen Brown and up to three unprotected first-round picks (2025, 2027, and 2029) and two draft-order trades (2024 and 2026).

Negotiations between Kevin Durant and Celtics

The Nets have rejected Boston’s offer. This is despite the fact that precisely four weeks have passed since the news broke that Kevin Durant asked to leave the team even though he had four years left on his contract.

Durant has only played 90 games in his three seasons with the Nets and has stated that he doesn’t want to be with the Nets anymore.

At the moment, the negotiations are stalled, and according to experts, this is because Brooklyn wants an unprecedented return. Yet few teams can afford that asking price without completely dismantling their current roster.

The offer that Boston launched offering Jaylen Brown is not bad, but who wins are the Celtics.

Brown has two seasons left on his contract, but the problem is that it’s not a maximum contract.

Therefore, he can play in Boston until his contract expires and become a free agent.

If Brown continues to evolve as a player and become a vital part of the team as he was in the playoffs last season, averaging 23.1 points, 6.9 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and hitting 37.3% of his 3-pointers, he could be very attractive for any team.

And Boston would lose it for free in just two years.

The Celtics can offer Brown a three-year, $111 million extension, but the problem is that the player will most likely turn it down to become a free agent and negotiate better terms with other teams on his behalf.

What do the Nets want?

The Nets are in a difficult situation, although it seems that they dominate the negotiations.

The James Harden trade with the Houston Rockets has cornered Brooklyn.

Because the Rockets have control of the Nets’ next five first-round picks, Brooklyn can’t bottom out and rebuild its roster with the top five picks.

So, Brooklyn is looking for a package of at least four first-round picks, three pick trades, and a player on a rookie-scale contract with the potential to become an All-NBA-type player. Something no team can do.

According to their rumor, the Nets would be asking the Celtics for a package that includes Brown and Smart and two first-round picks.

The problem is that it would be crazy for Boston to accept this deal since it would be dismantling the foundations of the team that made it to the NBA Finals.

Jayson Tatum sees no need for Durant.

As Celtics management loses sleep devising a plan to acquire Durant, team leader Jayson Tatum sees no need for the player’s addition.

“I played with (Durant) during the Olympics,” Tatum said Tuesday night before the premiere of the Showtime documentary “Point Gods.” “Obviously, he’s a great player, but that’s not my call. We’ve got two new pieces [Malcolm Brogdon and Danilo Gallinari],” Tatum said.

Experts agree that the Celtics need a third star to carry the team and boost Tatum, but not at the cost of sacrificing other vital pieces like Smart or Brown. Therefore Durant’s option does not seem the best.
