In the MLB not everything is glory, Disappointments of the 2022 postseason

In the MLB

We recount the mistakes made in the MLB, and with a view to the finals, it is essential to analyze things and know what needs to be improved.

It was a disappointing surprise to see the Seattle Marines return to the playoffs after a long absence of 21 years. One of the things that also generated surprise was the Cleveland Guardians’ division title.

But the Detroit Tigers are not far behind in disappointing things as they owed $217 million to shortstop Javier Báez with $140 million and left-hander Eduardo Rodríguez with $77 million.
The Minnesota Twins were looking for their goal in the playoffs, and they did not achieve it despite having Carlos Correa the highest-paid field in a season.

But if we talk about significant failures, we mention the Chicago White Sox. This team is one of the most expensive but also inefficient in the big leagues.

It cannot be forgotten that Rick Rentería was fired due to the team being eliminated in the first round and leading the team to lose 100 games in 2018.

The ones who had the odds against in MLB

The ones who had the odds against it were the White Sox, and they brought Tony LaRussa out of retirement, a member of the hall of fame who, since 2011, did not do any of the work for which he was being called. We saw LaRussa qualify for the postseason even though he was eliminated in the first round.

The White Sox were favorites with a $208 Million payroll and a roster full of talent, but a series of events brought them down. We can say that they suffered injuries to their stars and several mistakes that LaRussa made. The truth is that the team never played as expected.

La Russa, who led three World Series champion teams in Major League Baseball, announced that he would step down as the Chicago White Sox manager due to health problems that kept him out of the game.

He has not coached a game since doctors told him on August 30 that he needed more tests related to a heart problem.

A problem discovered during medical exams and not revealed by La Russa forced him into an indefinite leave of absence.

“While I was inactive with the pacemaker, the second issue was analyzed,” he noted. “The result is that my medical team has developed a corrective plan and has begun its implementation.”

“My overall prognosis is good, and I want to thank everyone who has reached out to me with good wishes,” he added.

La Russa stressed that the second health issue makes it impossible to be the White Sox manager in 2023.

La Russa led the Oakland Athletics to the 1989 World Series crown and also guided the St. Louis Cardinals to the Fall Classic title in 2006 and 2011, retiring after the 2011 playoffs.

Inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2014, La Russa served as an MLB executive and in various club roles for a decade until returning to a managerial position with the White Sox last year, becoming the manager. oldest in the Major Leagues and the first Hall of Famer to step into such a position.

The White Sox went 93-69 last year to win the AL Central crown but lost to the Houston Astros in the playoffs.

In the current campaign, the Chicago team has a record of 79-80 and failed to qualify. La Russa’s historical record as a manager is 2,882 wins and 2,495 losses.

But don’t forget that while it’s a disappointing retirement, LaRussa’s legacy is more than just a losing team. Those who faced him knew they were against one of the greatest of all time. His attitude and courage, coupled with professionalism, made his rivals prepare better, making the sport grow.
