World Series: Phillies vs. Astros Who will come out on top? Place your bets now! The Fall Classic is the most important baseball series of the year and always delivers great emotions for fans and bettors. This year, the Philadelphia Phillies will face the Houston Astros in what promises to be a great series.

Both teams have a lot to offer and have traveled different but equally difficult paths to reach the World Series.

Philadelphia Phillies

The Philadelphia Phillies are having a Cinderella story of a season. The team started the season on the wrong foot and reached May with a 21-29 record.

The situation was so bad that the team decided to fire Joe Girardi. Rob Thomson would take charge, and they managed to turn things around, going 65-46, a pace maintained until the end of the season, garnering 95 wins.

Road to the World Series, The Phillies finished off the Cardinals in the Wild Card and dispatched the champion Braves in the Divisional Round. The final test was against the Padres, whom they defeated in game 5, leaving the series 4-3.

It wasn’t an easy ride for a Phillies team that, in five months, went from an injury-plagued sub-.500 team to a serious playoff contender.

Phillies slugger Bryce Harper never gave up hope and was optimistic the team could salvage the season, said first baseman, Rhys Hoskins.

“He [Harper] said, ‘We’re not going to lose. He’s been saying that since day one in St. Louis [during the wild card series]. I think it’s the belief that he has in us. It’s the belief that we have the one in the other one”.

The team’s good results are mainly due to making the right decisions at the right time.

Dave Dombrowski, president of operations, was the one who felt the team needed a change and made the tough decision to replace Girardi.

“Sometimes when you make a leadership change, you feel a little different in the clubhouse,” Dombrowski told ESPN. “It’s not necessarily negative about the individual involved, Joe, in this case. It’s just a different feeling.”

Houston Astros

Arguably, the Astros’ road to the World Series was easier, or at least that’s what they make it seem. They dominated their division with 106 wins, the second most in franchise history, and 56 losses.

They entered the Divisional Round without problems, where the Mariners ended up with another team that was a surprise by its good performance, but that did not cause them problems and won in three games.

Finally, they faced the Yankees, whom they dominated in the Championship Series with three victories.

They will play the Fall Classic for the second time in a row and fourth in six years. Interestingly, the team plays the world series with completely different players than last season.

Carlos Correa, George Springer, and Dallas Keuchel, among others, have left the team.

Even manager A.J. Hinch, who was the principal architect of the successes of the last few years, is no longer in the team because he had to step out due to the sign theft scandal.

Despite all the changes, the Astros have established themselves as one of the season’s best teams.

Dusty Baker, the team’s current manager, says that this is due to the continuity in the processes and thanks to the core of players. “My presence here has had to do with continuing the process and strengthening the organization,” he said, adding, “Some of the core guys are still here. Some other players have taken on more leadership roles than they did before. It has been a natural process.

“We have terrific guys here, on and off the field of play. They accept young people. They teach the youngsters who they coach the proper way to play the game at the highest level and how to run their business. I have had a very exciting time here, where we all always hope to win.”
