Jake Paul vs. Anderson Silva

A veteran of a thousand battles, Anderson Silva

At 47 years old and most of them dedicated to combat sports, Anderson Silva is still active and, apparently, did not plan an upcoming retirement as was thought.

In an interview granted to the ‘TMZ Sports portal, the former UFC champion ruled out hanging up his gloves after the match scheduled for October 29 in Arizona.

Silva said that regardless of the outcome of the fight against Jake Paul, he will remain active and hinted that there is even a chance to compete in jiu-jitsu.

“No, no, definitely not (it will be my last fight). I talked to my jiu-jitsu coach, Ramon Lemos, about fighting kimono jiu-jitsu in Abu Dhabi, and maybe this will be my next challenge. I don’t know when I’m going to stop. I know that one day I will stop.

But not now. I try to challenge myself every day. Especially now that my children have started fighting and I help them,” said Silva.

Anderson Silva is a living legend of MMA, where he competed between 1997 and 2020, earning a record 34 wins, 23 of them by knockout, 11 losses, and one no-contest.

The Brazilian fighter was the UFC middleweight champion (84 kg) from 2006 to 2013 and had great moments inside the cage, being considered by many to be the greatest of all time in the sport.

Jake Paul has made a career defeating veterans

The YouTube star turned professional boxing rebel has made a career off of beating washed former athletes in exhibition fights, but Silva will not be an easy opponent.

Although Paul is 25 years old and Silva is 47, the Brazilian is considered one of the most lethal men in the world and has never stopped training at the highest level.

The odds for this matchup have moved a lot in the last few days and will probably continue to do so, as it is difficult to determine how much of a difference there is between these athletes.

Paul admitted that this will be a strange fight as he is a huge Silva fan and even stood in line as a kid to get his picture taken with the wrestling star.

“I think the first 15 seconds of the fight will be a little bit weird,” Paul admitted in a chat with MMA Junkie. “Just because if you’ve seen Creed or Rocky, it’s like all the lights are on you and there’s 20,000 people, it really feels like you’re in a movie.

It’s a surreal feeling and then my brain is definitely going to be like ‘why am I in the ring with Anderson Silva right now?’

“It will be really weird, but after that first 15 seconds, usually what it takes for me to get into the fight is to get punched once.

So when I get hit once that’s when I’m like, in the zone. I’ m excited to see how that feeling feels, but I’m going to try to get rid of it as fast as possible.”

Paul also commented on the pressure and that he is aware that many want to see him lose.

“Clearly they are representing the MMA community, and tons of the MMA fans want to see me lose, because there is a feud between us all.

So he definitely is representing his legacy and all that. And the reason this fight is happening is because Dana White said I wouldn’t do it. So I had to check his bluff on him and prove to everyone, including him, that I’m not scared of Anderson Silva. …

“So this is definitely MMA vs. I guess myself. Knock him out before Round 5 – that’s my prediction and I strong, strongly believe in that, respectfully knock him out. With love and grace and a kiss.”
